Political bits

(NYPost) Rudy Giuliani is starting a fundraising committee to funnel cash to NY politicians feeding speculation that he'll run for governor.

(NYTimes) Hillary Clinton has had to loan her campaign another $1 million to service debt and pay bills. (I haven't chipped in to help her out, but I also don't want this to happen. Probably why they put this story out there.)

(NYTimes) Romney's stock is rising for McCain's VP. (Is the McCain campaign feeding VP speculation to try and take some focus of Obama's trip?)

(WashTimes) "Condoleezza Rice has instructed U.S. overseas missions to provide only minimal support to foreign visits by the two main presidential candidates." (Funny how this happens after McCain has made several trips and Obama's on his first, no?)

(WaPo) Bush seems to be making a concerted effort not to say Barack Obama's name.

(AdAge) The DSCC and DNCC are starting to spend ad money. ($5 million buys a whole lot of media in Maine against Susan Collins.)

And, you gotta love this snarky headline from the AP.
Unlike McCain, many seniors depend on the Web

It's never good when you become a punchline.....

  • Romney is at 3 to 1 to get the nomination, by far the highest level he has achieved on the markets.

Interestingly, Palin is second at about 6 to 1.

Perhaps even more interesting is that there is no clear favorite for the Democrats. You can get six to one on Clinton and at least 10 to one on anyone else.

  • I don't know much about Palin, but I really find that a reach.

And, can I take 1 to 6 against Clinton? I think that's easy money.

  • Michael Palin? Nah. Can't be.

Please let it be Romney. His the other non-conservative conservative... Who's neo-conservatism right wing pandering only sprung to life when the whiff of running for president was in the air.

God I can't stand Romney. Between the curmudgeon who can't read a teleprompter and the overly starched puritan... Boy, you couldn't get farther away from the average American than this pair. What's their collective net worth, including spouses?

    Yeah. Obama's the elitist.

The discipline of the Obama campaign is amazing. If he weren't "my guy" I'd say scary. We're, what, five weeks from the convention and there's not even an agreed upon short list floating around. Everything we hear is just what the punditocracy and talking heads are pullin' outa their butts... nothing substantiated.

  • EPM, no, it's the Alaska politician (Sandra?) Palin.

And the Obama camp discipline has been phenomenal throughout. There have been almost exactly no leaks of any kind, really. That's unheard of.

  • Unfortunately, no, you can only get 6 to one FOR Clinton. If you bet against her, you loose 6 to one if she gets in. So, essentially a $1 contract will cost you about 85 cents right now.

Whoops, just re-read your post. Yes, you can take 1 to 6 against.

  • I wouldn't put huge money on it, but maybe a nice dinner.

  • Too bad. Michael Palin would have added some levity the the gloom-and-doom, war-obsessed, McCain.
