Failing in definition
Thought: The Obama campaign has not yet completely tied John McCain to George Bush's presidency in the independent voter and media mind.
On the other hand, the McCain campaign has not even nudged the polls in its efforts to define Obama as young, inexperienced, or (that new euphemism for race) "strange."
Neither sides' attacks are really landing. That's odd to me.
(Maybe we need one of them to make a complete fool of himself.)

This is true. I would point out, however, that Obama has shown he can pace a campaign and will not come out blazing all at once. I expect the Obama campaign to continue a drum beat of "3rd Bush term" and such throughout the summer.
It will be interesting to see what happens after Labor Day; from the campaigns, the attack groups, and the media.

Agreed. And I figure it will probably peak at the convention.
I'm just surprised that it's not sticking better at this point.

Nothing sticks unless the media report it as a credible charge. The media are still on the McMaverick bus. If that changes -- if the corporate media really report on how McCain has morphed into a "Bush", on policies and with regard to who's running and financing his campaign -- we'll see the charges stick.
Without being too cynical, I think the current crop of paid media "consultants" lists heavily toward the conservative, inside-the-beltway types. Until the Democratic leaning "observers" are given equal time, I don't expect the general media meme to change from "McCain: War hero and Maverick."

Well, it's always been my opinion they tilt towards power, and since the Republicans have been in charge so long, that's most of the contacts and "first calls" they make for interpretation.
They're tag alongs who feel important being adjacent to power.

"... tilts toward power..."
This is true, for the most part. And power tends to favor the status quo. After all, that's where the power lies... except, of course, in those rare moments of shifting politics.

Right, but they lag a bit because their "insider" sources that give them interpretation are all still the GOP.
