With headlines like "Hillary Backers Vow to Voter For McCain," and neither Hillary nor the campaign doing anything to dissuade these folks (indeed, the campaign is still grousing about the decision), isn't she really doing harm to her Democratic political future?
I'm reading things that even among the NY delegation, patience is growing thin with the Clintons course, divisive political behavior.
This is high stakes stuff, and I have no doubt the Clinton's have a plan. A plan where the get something for themselves, anyway. I know they have no real commitment to the party beyond their own self interest, but I just can't figure out what Hillary wants. Besides to merely be installed as the nominee and for everyone else to just shut up and do as she says.

I watched part of Ickes on Meet the Press and he sounded so disconnected from reality.
And, it is over. The patience is out.
I would expect the deadline to be Wednesday. If not, the knives will come out.
I'm really curious about the superdels. Who comes in when, and what do they say.
I'm guessing that Pelosi, Dean, Reid have already told her when they will endorse as a deadline, offering two versions of how that endorsement will go if either she stays in or FINALLY gets out.

I am now convinced that what we are seeing is a cult of personality attempting to subvert the Party in the same way that the evangelicals took over the GOP through internal Party mechanisms.
There is essentially a suicide bomber mentality among these "Democrats" that threaten to vote for McCain. Of course, a case could be made that HRC is basically just a pro-choice Republican, which would explain a lot.
Count me as another who just can't understand what Hillary hopes to get out of this. 2012? Even if Obama loses, Hillary will be seen by most the Party as the Destroyer rather than the Saviour. Her ability to get people to vote for the Republican candidate is hardly an appealing quality for a Democratic nominee.

Yeah, but I think the difference between this and the religious right is that it's not at all about issues.
There's no policy positions or statements really being required.
To me, it's all about the emotions of losing, and somehow the desire to overturn the Bush adinistration has been transferred onto Obama. As if he now represents "the power."
(Regarding 2012, let me add that even without everything that's gone on, she still has that same problem of the anti-Hillary sentiment that was out there before this primary got going., and with what's gone on, that won't be even better.
Plus, she's never getting back alot of the African Americans.)

And that's the weird thing. They are essentially fighting over who is going to have the privilege of defeating McCain, and one side is threatening to vote for McCain if they don't get their way. It's entirely emotional. These people need a therapist more than they need a candidate.
The evangelical takeover of the GOP wasn't primarily about policy. The Republicans were already pro-life and for school prayer before the fundies made their move. It was a change in tone and priority more than anything.
Still, I admit it was a flawed analogy.

That is the weirdest thing about this, but I think the passion is a byproduct of the "identity politics" of having a woman and (half) black running for office.

There are probably many angles to this. Not only is Hillary a woman candidate she's Hillary®; a bone fide political brand. Not only is she a woman and a political brand, her opponent is a black man, and I do believe this is a problem for some of the limo-lib crowd.
Hillary also represents the antithesis of Obama with regard to campaigning styles and views of how the political "game" should be played. She is a militant, kick-ass campaigner in her rhetoric. She engages enthusiastically in the kind of politics that Obama rails against (that from which we need to change.) There's an appeal to this sort of scorch earth, hard knuckles, character assassinating politics.
I read somewhere (probably on dKos) that, in fact, Hillary is little more than a pro-choice Republican. I'm not sure I'd go that far, but I do think her view of politics transcends any particular policy and at it's core is one of class. She, like GWB and GHWB, are part of the ruling class... Obama is not. She is of a culture that will put on a great show of opposition with the Republicans, then join them at the club later for a drink and talk about their adjoining condos at some exclusive resort, and the problem with certain uppity characters getting too big for their britches.
She (like Bill and Terry McAuliffe and Lanni and, and...) is the type of politician Nader is talking about when he says there's no difference between the Dems and Repubs.

She is an insider or establishment candidate. I think you could argue that that was one deciding factor in her Iowa loss that set this whole ball rolling.
And she's not a Repub. She may campaign dirtier or whatever, but she's not.
