WRT the Chinese/Russia struggles over Kazakhstan, China is definitely making some broad power plays in the region.
India just began to move 6000 troops to their northern border in response to Chinese "exercises". It's quite possible China could cut off Assam from the rest of India, and there is a province of India that China claims is theirs. Chinese troops have already begun building roads and moving men and material through Bhutan, which is pretty much powerless to do anything about it.
So far India is downplaying it, since they really don't want a border war with China

I knew next to none of that other than the broad attempts by the Chinese to increase their dominance in he region.
