But it worked. Al Qaeda is now occuring more in the Iraq debate, and political reconciliation is being spoken of less.

Of course it worked. It's not like we have an independent, critical free press. Or at least none of the video media outlets -- broadcast or cable -- fall into that category. Please.
Some day, maybe, America will care enough to demand the truth and punish the liars. I'm not holding my breath.

In this case, I think that it's more that their poor in their jobs than favoring anything.
We've hit this point where news, especially cable news, is driven by controversy rather than news.
And, this is appetizing because it's a he said/she said with "experts" on both sides rather with a little fire in it.
That's a whole lot easier to fill airtime with than reporting.
