A window into Monica Goodling.
From a pre-testimony WaPo article on Goodling not hiring Dems.
Notice that it's not "serve my country."
"All I ever wanted to do was serve this president, this administration, this department," Goodling tearfully told a senior Justice official shortly before she quit.
Notice that it's not "serve my country."

This has been the modus operandi for this entire sub-species of Republicanism. The very concept of country is foreign to these people. There is not country, there is them and us. You either serve them (the Bushian borg of authoritarianism and graft) or you serve the enemy (Democrats, independent thinkers, al Qaeda... that sort of thing).
I don't know if this poison, now introduced into the system, can ever be purged. Will we ever return to the notion of truth, liberty and integrity above party, domination, and greed? It will take a generation, at least. I'm doing my part by teaching my children well. It will be upon their shoulders to lead the way back to the light of liberty.
(ranting... sorry)

Yeah. The one thing that hasn't really been addressed in Monica Goodling's behavior is that if sghe was only hiring loyalist Republican career employees, ehat cleans that up?
Even when there's a new President, there's no way to undo the politically lopsided hiring of career employees.
It's not like they're political appointees, and you can't just fire them because....
So, the department will stay lopsided for years.

My hope is that such hires, almost by their very nature, will move on when the job becomes actual justice work and not simply political advocacy. With a new administration come a new culture (hopefully). Just as when a company is bought out by another, there is often some rank and file staff who move on because they don't care for the new corporate climate or direction.

That's the hope, but hope is the only available mechanism.
