The illogic of a "surge"
Question: If we can't announce a timetable for withdrawal because it will allow the bad guys/insurgents/militias to "wait us out," how does that same problem not exist in the case of a 3 month "surge?" Why wouldn't they just wait that out?
(I don't believe either of these are true, but it does seem a gaping and unexplored hole in the logic.)

Abi, I know it doesn't affect anything, but I just can't look past it.
And, Graeme, that's actually what I think they're planning. I think they're going to try to stabilize (doubtful) and then try to turn over to the trainer embedded Iraqi forces.
When that doesn't work, they'll repeat the same thing in another 6 months with still more troops.
