James Carville can kiss my ass - Part II

James Carville attacked Howard Dean the other day over "Rumsfeldian incompetence." (I have my own theory that Carville is trying to seize the party apparatus to benefit his '08 candidate.)

Anyway, Dean fired back today speaking in front of an adoring Association of State Democratic Chairs. (And Hotline analyzes and debunks Carville's criticisms.)

Look. The Dems were highly competitive in places where they hadn't been previously this year because Dean gave the money to the state parties and let them craft tactics and message that worked locally for them. And, yes, that means the Democratic party may change.

The Democrats are a populist party, and key in that is being responsive to the people. You can't cookie cut the DLC model across the country. In the Carville model, we probably wouldn't have McCaskill and definitely wouldn't have Webb or Tester.

  • Carville's an asshole. He's married to an even bigger asshole (and a Cheney blowjob queen, for that matter) which makes him doubly suspect in my book. Why anybody in the Democratic party takes his "WWF political schtick" serious any more is beyond me.

All the Clinton strategists are scumbags. Carville, Begala, Davis, Stephanopolous - they're all double-dealing, calculated operators who care nothing for the Democratic party. It's all about helping out their benefactors - the Clintons.

Every time one of these fuckers opens his mouth, I'm always wondering how what they're saying will benefit HRC or BC.

One of the best results of this election cycle would be if the Clinton people lost influence in the party. We've had enough triangulation tactics. They're trying their best to nail Dean and take the party back for the DLCer's, but I have a feeling many of the party faithful will not have it.

At least, I hope that is so.

  • I think that's happened to some degree.

If you look at the economic message coming from the alot of the newly elected democrats, it is a message of "fairness," kind of an echoing of Edwards' "two America's" theme.

For whatever they say, the Clinton/DLC group is decidedly pro-business. They want to go after the Republicans by trying to steal some of their donors, telecom/banking for instance.

It's an elitist method in alot of ways. That a core group of the "top" Dems can decide and define the themes and message of the party.

Whereas, the Dean principle is that "the people" should define the message which makes a much "bigger tent," but is a bit more difficult to control.

It's two very different strategies to power. The DLC strategy seems to be to calculate electoral victory to emerge with a core agenda. Dean seems to be focused on getting as many Dems as possible in power.

The main difference once in power is that the Dean model requires real leadership to join the tribes as it were, whereas the DLC model seems to require political bargaining and triangulation.

    That's the difference to me.

(Can you tell which side I'm on?)

  • GREAT job by Howard Dean. That man is a leader of the people. Piss right on Carville and his Republican Lite ilk.

  • Again, it's pretty obvious which side of this I'm on, but I agree.

Much like his '04 campaign, Dean is about a movement, a shift in the party.

So, I guess it's not surprising that the old leaders want him out.
