  • I'll give you veteran, but not much else.

    I was one of those people who really liked McCain in '00 before he was hatcheted by Karl Rove.

    When the Swiftboaters were going strong in '04, at one point all the media paused to see what McCain would say. I think he could've largely stopped it. Instead he went campaigning with Bush, leaving Kerry, his supposed close friend to swing while McCain chased his ambition.

    That says all I need to know about the man.

  • McCain and all the Republicans ought to be exiled from public life by the voters for at least the next 50 years. That's how long it's going to take to get over this war and pay off the debt that Bush has run up and repair his administation's damage to the environment and the social structure of this country.

  • Oh, I know what I forgot to mention. It was about Trent Lott seeking the minority whip job. Now there is a perfect example of leadership for the Republican Party. A Mississippi guy on record as longing for the good old days of slavery when black people knew their place, or else.

    Someone called Steph this morning and suggested that maybe Lott thought being a minority whip meant he would then be authorized to whip minorities.

  • I know how you feel about McCain. I voted for him in the 2000 primary, and he won our state. Alas, it was not enough to stem the tide of Bush.
    Now, as much as I hate to say it, I'd take Hillary over McCain.

  • Newsguy, like a Congressional "time out." You guys have been bad, so now go sit in the corner. Watch the Committee hearings in a month or two. That's what they'll look like.

    Time, Yes. His reaching out to the religious right has been an almost textbook example of whoredom. Also, note that this picture was taken at the Federalist society, the group devoted to right wing judges. Scalia, Thomas, Alito....

    Graeme, I think he took that as a politically "safe" position. He could be tough, support the war, and not actually have to see his theory tested. I'll bet he neverthought Bush was crazy enough to actually escalate.

    Lew, That's exactly me. I didn't get a chance to vote for McCain(at least it was decided before it got her) but I was pulling for him hard. And at this point, I would happily take Clinton over McCain.
