  • Amazing, isn't it?

In the last week, the administration has lost control of the news cycle. In the Sept. 11 week, they monopolized it. Last week there was that brief attempt when Bush said that Democrats had bought into Al Qaeda propaganda, but that fell flat against the real news.

It's not possible to "make a significant speech" every day for 5 weeks, so I think the Whitehouse has decided to keep low for a week or two and try to regain control later.

We'll have to wait and see. There's going to be alot of damage in that time.

  • Yet all weekend on CNN international (which many consider to be less corrupted than it's U.S. conterpart) all I got was the 9/11 tapes (to remind everyone to be afraid) and the Yemeni success in killing the man responsible for bombing the French tanker.

With everything else that was happening in the "central front in the War on Terror," CNN's coverage seemed awfully one-sided, even to the point of pandering.

Not a word about Foley either. All weekend.

  • Hey, I get CNNI here on my cable network and it's generally one of the better newsbroadcasts available here.

Sometimes they do slide off topic, but if you want Foley, their entire second segment on Your World Today was Foley. (7-8 minutes? Monday).

Iraq is just not a story in the US. It baffles me. That's one of the reasons I overrepresent Iraq on my blog. I want to give people who want to know about Iraq some starting points.

The media likes the easy story. Killed terrorist/ disgraced congressman is easy. It's linear, you do a little obituary, you tease with some salacious details and people like it.

Trying to tie together all the political elements and acts of violence in Iraq into a coherent televiosion story is hard.
