Foley Update - it gets worse

We've just crossed another line. ABC is reporting three more pages coming forward saying Foley tried to solicit sex and naked photos, and offered one to stay at his place in exchange for sexual favors.

Dear Tony Snow, tell me again this is just about 'naughty emails'.

See you at tomorrow's press briefing, asshole.

  • I'm getting chatter from my direct link to the Limbaugh crowd that the page in question (the original) was 18 at the time.

Is this more Rush poisoning of the well or substantiated.

I'll probbly ask RBE as he is usually up on the spin-doctor elements.

    Thanks,

    PT

  • Well, that's coming off of Drudge, but no real news outlet has said that.

Yesterday, he had a claim up the kid was 21. (But that disappeared.)

Drudge is now also claiming that it was somehow entrapment, that the first kid was playing a joke (somehow) and lured Foley into asking him to measure his penis(?).

ABC responded with this story identifying threee more pages from three different classes. (that all entrapped?)

ABC made note to shoot down both of Drudge's claimsby pointing out one o the kids was 17, and at the bottom mentioning Drudge specifically at the bottom.

This is part of the right wing smoke machine designed to confuse people like your "direct link to the limbaugh crowd."

They want to be fooled. They want it to be a vast left wing conspiracy, so it's easy.

  • By The Way....

IS this real? Is this anything? OR is it hype?

    (Reuters)

    "
Islamic extremists planned to kidnap dozens of Jews in Prague and hold them hostage before murdering them, the daily Mlada Fronta Dnes reported on Friday.

  • Hard to tell, but if I had to guess I would say that it was made up. We don't know anything and the government is saying nothing.

I trust these guys in our government about as much as I trust Hassert. These are the guys who said that Atta met with the former Iranian intelligence officer (al-Ami ?) in front of Radio Free Europe. Then they provided extra security to Radio Free Europe (unrequested) and have been charging them a pretty penny for the security ever since. The officials at Radio Free Europe didn't feel they needed the security (let's say my source on THAT bit is bulletproof) but they decided to just go along with it to not make problems.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they were fabricating it, or using some random threat (i.e. there were like 12 bomb threats that day) to justify a larger police budget.

From what I know about the "threat", one known Pakistani terrorist contacted a Prague resident (Albanian from Kosovo) about meeting him. They had met in prison in Sweeden. The Albanian gave an interview on television the other night where he denied having anything to do with terrorism and that he assumed the Pakistani wanted help dealing black market cigarettes which the Albanian specializes in.

That was on TV two nights ago and it makes the reaction look pretty foolish. It looks like the government leaked the story to justify their over-reaction to the non-threat.

But I'm just guessing here. I should put this together in a post.

  • BTW,

I like your point on the right wing believing what they want. There are millions out there who now believe that the page was of age of consent and that the Democrats orchestrated the release before the election.

No amount of facts is going to ever change that in the minds of literally millions.

    Rush must be so proud.

  • Thanks a ton on the kidnap story. It sounded fishy to me too, but I don't know enough to make a judgement. You confirmed what I suspected. Good headline, no story.

And on Drudge/Rush, I understand that. I'm more prone to believe what fits within what I think to be true, but I also actually read to try to determine what the truth is.

The whole Rush/Drudge thing is part of a much larger movement in America that disdains facts for truthiness. I assume you don't get the Colbert Report, but it's a daily satire that pretends to be one of these rightwing shows.

  • I don't get Colbert, but I watch on the internet occationally. I also watch his speach that he gave once in a while just to cheer myself up.

I'm reduced to the Daily Show Global Edition once a week. Did you see the Musharraf interview? Priceless.

  • BTW,

No problem on that story. Exposing fake news out of the Czech republic is something I love to do. I'll follow up on that story as it develops.

I rarely say it, but thanks for all you do.

  • Cool man, thanks for the praise.

I'm sorry you don't get Daily show 4 nights. It's consistently biting. (plus I think it shows there's a fair majority in this country who don't like what's going on.)
