Question

If the Saudis can get close enough to determine whether Bin Laden is just sick or dead why in the goddamned hell have they not told the US where he is?

Later: Same goes for the Pakistanis, who now say Bin Laden's "alive and healthy."

(Wouldn't "Bin Laden dead of natural causes" be a convenient political solution for both Musharraf and Bush?)

And, notice, no one's talking about Iraq.

This Bin Laden story smells to me. I still think it's an effort to flush a preelection tape out of him, maybe track it back.

  • Bellaciao has a story that Bush had planned to bomb Pakistan last week because Musharraf threatened to tell the world BinLaden is dead. If the Saudis and Pakistanis can get close enough to BinLaden, one would think that the US could have found this out and tracked him down by now.
The truth is, both alQaeda and Bush need Osama to be alive, so both parties are going o do their best to discredit the story for differing reasons.

  • I'll buy that as an argument. I'm not beyond ruling out that Bin Laden died awhile back.

But the US bombing Pakistan for releasing that info? That doesn't work for me.

I certainly know the tapes can be faked, but tend to believe the mainstream on this one, that Bin Laden is in Pakistan.

But I will definitely agree that Bin Laden on the loose is of tremendous value to Bush. If Bin Laden is dead or brought in, all the steam suddenly comes out of the terror bubble. (justified or no.) Then Iran/Syria are off the table anmd the US is back to where it began on Israel Palestine. The evil bogeyman Bin Laden has offered cover there too.
