That all depends on how much coverage this gets in the US media, which I think will be spotty.

I think it might get a fair amount of coverage. There's alot of airtime to fill, and they aren't going to talk about Iraq.
If Blair does go, though, it would be Aznar, Berlusconi, Blair.

I don't think it will get all that much coverage in the US Press. What coverage it does get will have a spin of "After nearly a decade in office... has decided to retire as prime minister to spend more time with his family. Loyal American ally... tough on terror..."

And those are our allies. Let's also note the victories of Hammas, Ahmadinejad, the Islamic Courts Union (in Somalia) and victories of liberal candidates in several Latin American elections recently who campaigned against US policies.
Can you name a foreign leader whose domestic appeal is enhanced by his association with Bush?

I probably should've included in the post that a large part of the Labor upset is because Blair keeps promising to step aside and then extends. Iraq is the agitation, but the reasons for the call are purely domestic.
And, good point about the "non-friends." I tried playing the game, but couldn't think of one leader that has benefitted from closeness. Even Koizumi, Even Mexico's Fox has suffered.
