It's been so easy to make fun of Bush's ignorance and to bristle at the greed of Cheney but when you strip that away you're left with the reality of what is happening to the families of our service people. Bush's stupidity and Cheney's greed aren't funny, they're criminal.

Yeah. If they lied us into war, I think it is criminal, although I'm not sure what statute.
Also, I believe in a multimotivational theory of why we're in Iraq.
I don't think Cheney, for example, sold the Iraq war to Bush just for oil, I also think there was som pro-Israel bits, and some PNAC bits, and some repositioning regional forces out of Saudi bits, and some applying pressure on China and Iran bits.
We're in Iraq because it represents a confluence of those interests and probably more. But the key point is that alot of those benefits fall to Cheney and friends while the costs are borne by the country.
