Hell yeah, he'll help

We've already seen Lieberman hitting the Rovian playbook, terrorism, far liberal left, even throwing out a classic Republican villian association this morning. But this? Do I believe this?
According to a close Lieberman adviser, the President's political guru, Karl Rove, has reached out to the Lieberman camp with a message straight from the Oval Office: "The boss wants to help. Whatever we can do, we will do."

(Note, this came through George Snuffleupogus, so it might have been an unintentional over drinks kinda comment.)

Update: That is confirmed. And now, Lieberman's whole campaign staff is gone. Still unclear whether they jumped or were pushed.

  • What makes Lieberman so important to the Republicans? They endorse him, offer to campaign for him, but essentially, he's a Democrat, right? I just don't get it.

  • I think it's because he serves a purpose. So long as they can paint the Lamont win solely as against the Iraq war, they come out ahead.

Their main focus is to keep the Lieberman loss from being perceived as an early referendum on Bush, presaging, and setting the CW framing, for November.

As for now, so long as he's out there, they are able to portray him as a moderate, and the "winning" forces of the Dems as far left. They can then use this fear of far left to try to frighten the middle to their side.

Also, talking about Lieberman is not talking about Bush. Anything they can do to turn the conversation away from the state of the country is to their advantage.

Just some quick opinions, but I haven't followed it as closely as alot of people.
