Bush looking for Rumsfeld's successor

Laura Rozen has another frustratingly vague post. (This is all there is; it's her second such mention.)
Bush has put out a quiet feeler to replace Rumsfeld in recent weeks. He was politely turned down by at least one candidate he personally called. Unknown: is this one of many candidates Bush has sounded out? Is there a Bernacke-style search going on quietly in the background.

Politically, I can't see any such change coming before the election, and if it were right afterwards, everyone would ask about the politics of it, so I don't know.

Treat this as rumor at this point, but put it on the radar.

  • Lieberman has called for Rumsfeld's removal. Of course this IS NOT coming from the NON-EXISTENT Israel Lobby. That according to Noam Chomsky is just 1 among thousands of lobbying groups in DC and the NON-EXISTENT Israeli Lobby has no more pull than any other according to Noam.

So W's gonna reshuffle the deck to play a different game of Rummy.

I'm afraid that Rumsfeld is being removed because he is not tough enough and is refusing to go into a 3 Front Middle Eastern War Scenario.

  • I think Rumsfeld will be pinned with every stone in the administration in an effort to shift blame.

They will try to sink that body with every mistake they've ever made.

  • Yes, 'let's VEX the left'. Not remove Americans from an unwinnable quagmire, oh no don't do that. Let's just VEX the left. Yes, by golly that's our new slogan. "VEX the left".

  • That would match the Tony Snow move for a Whitehouse Foxnews takeover.

Is he loyal? because you know whoever gets in there has to be willing to take all the crap so it doesn't get to Bush.

(That also shrinks the candidate pool alot.)

If we're talking worst, How about Bill Kristol?

  • "We have removed the obstacle causing all our mistakes and defeats in the war on terror (Rumesfeld), now we can move forward to victory."

Quote by President Bush - October 2, 2006.

  • Anonymous, I think it's because the war has had a political component all along. I mean, Rumsfeld has been kept around for political reasons, so the thought that anything relating to his replacement would be ppolicical as well.

    Time, It's too coherent.

Of course, I guess it could be a written statemnet he's reading rather than an answer to a question.
