Iraqi "displacements"

The number of "displaced" Iraqis is officially up to 130,386, although I would seriously question this number as it reflects an estimate of "registered internal refugees." I assume that means individuals who have applied for some sort of assistance or settled in one of the many growing camps.

If your life, and the lives of your family and children, had been threatened, would you register with a government that has been so deeply infiltrated by the militias?

  • 'Displacements' - wonderful. Just another corner of the nightmare we've created in Iraq.

  • Yeah, and such a wonderful euphemism. And this is just domestic "displacements." I've seen stories citing something like 400,000 Iraqis in Syria, Jordan, and Iran.

  • Hmmm...maybe we should invite all those displaced Iraqis to come live and work here. I mean, since the right is so fond of Iraqis that they're willing to spend American blood and treasure to spread liberty to 'em, they surely wouldn't mind a few hundred thousand more immigrants moving into their neighborhoods, eh?

  • I get your point, but we may actually end up with a fair number of Iraqis here. Depending on the circumstances of US departure, what happens to the collaborators, the translators, the people who informed?
