  • Do you wonder if this Scout, as he walks the cemetery, wonders if many servicemen and women buried here were duped into believing that they were actually fighting for a 'worthy' cause?

Further, do you think that he, some day, might have to decide whether the newest invasion site called by his president, is justifed?

  • This would make a good photo for BagNewsNotes to deconstruct. What is the underlying myth here? Is it intentionally ambiguous? What does the photo communicate without a story or interview to accompany it?

  • Lib Dem, that's why I found this interesting. I'm sure in one mind, the kid is just trying to make sure all the flags are in the right places, etc, but you know thoughts about all of this crossed his mind. And generally scouts do enlist at a pretty high rate relative to general population, so that's interesting as well.

Blake, this picture was with a story about several new veteran's cemetaries that are opening up around the country. (Not specific to Iraq, just new vet cemetaries.)

And, as for the picture, I don't know what their myth was. The reason I put it up is because I found it interesting as this kid apparently just a few years from enlistment age, being a scout, probably prone to service, was putting flags to honor soldiers he didn't know.

I was just kind of wondering what was going through his mind.

But your comment is one of the reasons I often put up pictures captionless, I find that a more interesting process in that the meaning is largely invested by the viewer. (Plus, it's a pain in the ass to save the pictures in one place and captions in the other.)

    Mike
