Picture of the Day

Are you kidding me?

President George W. Bush poses with a bronze bust commemorating his service in the Texas Air National Guard, in Washington, February 9, 2006. Bush is the nineteenth U.S. president to have served in the militia or National Guard. (Jonathan Ernst/Reuters)

With all the questions around his guard service? Stop-lossing grandfathers so they have to stay in Iraq? A letter signed by all 50 governors blasting the administration for "stripping the National Guard of equipment and personnel needed to respond to hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, forest fires and other emergencies?"

It's good to be the king.

(By the way, I know that's a pretty cruddy likeness, but this is a real Reuters photo.)

  • That he even has the balls to show up at the statue's commemoration is beyond me. His life is a work of fiction.

  • Yeah, this is unbelieveable to me.

It's like a farce about the middle ages where the build a statue to the brave king who "heroically left the field of battle to return to his castle to protect the items he kept in his closet."

It's good to be the king.

  • I think the statue is actually of a different guy who really served in the Texas Air National Guard!

Either that, or the sculptor couldn't get a good likeness because Bush didn't show up for the sitting!

  • I think it again goes back to Left Of Center's post from Kos about states initiating impeachment process on the basis of their rights with respect to the NG. How are they at the call of state government when they are deployed?

Also, Micheal the Tubthumper a while back had a post on the service records of a lot of people, from Limbaugh to O Reilly. Amazing how many critics of Kerry and others dodged service.

Regarding Corruptco, I am giving people time to post and later will gather the links of related posts. Thanks Mike Votes!

  • There is an incredible likeness between Bush and the bust. Same looks, same brainpower and either would make an excellent doorstop.

  • uxUn-f*cking-believable. Too bad we couldn't trade. Let the idiot sit on the pedestal and let the bronze guy be president.

    Good catch.
