Interrogating artists' political views in Britain

Life imitates art. (BBC)
The actors who star in movie The Road to Guantanamo were questioned by police at Luton airport under anti-terrorism legislation, it has emerged.

The men, who play British inmates at the detention camp, were returning from the Berlin Film Festival where the movie won a Silver Bear award.

One of the actors, Rizwan Ahmed, said a police officer asked him if he intended to make any more "political" films.

The only proper response to that question has more expletives than I have special characters to blot them out with.

  • Yeah, I just thought this was nuts because it hits so many buttons.

You have the irony that the actors were in a film about Guantanamo. You have the random harrassment of Arabs just for being Arab. You have the silencing dissent element.

It just spoke to me in a way that a regular story about harrassment wouldn't. I know that's a bit shallow, but it's true.
