Thought for the Day - 2

How different would it have been if a healthcare bill had rolled out of the Senate Finance Committee in late June?

1) Committee chairmanships matter. 2) There was no administration supplied "bones" as a startpoint for negotiations.

  • And this weeks SNL cold open made me wonder, "what if Hillary won?"

  • I didn't see it.

If Hillary Clinton had won, healthcare would be just as intractible, but with different levers.

There's too much money and too much GOP at stake against it

  • My thinking was, how much was lost in Obama's effort at "bipartisanship" and post-partisan politics. Maybe nothing would be different. Maybe Clinton's "old school" politics would have forced more change. Or maybe the same old school politics would have just made for faster -- but empty -- "reform."

I really don't know. But it would be interesting if I could manipulate time and space to find out.

  • I getcha. It's a lost time argument. I could ee that.

On the other hand, Clinton wouldn't have won NC or Indiana or probably Virginia, so she would have come in with far less momentum to squander.
