More story?
The first circumstances do sound like these three detained by Iran are innocent, but complete idiots. I mean, what US citizen "goes hiking" on the Kurdistan/Iranian border without some idea that things might go wrong?

I'm guessing here but maybe they thought it would be 'cool' to walk around inside Iran. Maybe put it on youtube?

I'd buy that.... but it just seems so stupid even without
Iran. Just waandering around Kurdistan countryside, Americans without body guards seems pretty damned dumb.
