The Nixonian argument that "it's not illegal if the president orders is." Is very similar to the Fundamentalist rationalization that "it's not a sin if a real Christian does it." And is also similar to the general Republican attitude that "It's OK if you're a Republican."
There is a common theme of exceptionalizm -- or exempt-ualism -- that the exceptional are exempt. That rules are for the unexceptional only.
In a collateral phenomenon, there is the notion of conditional definition. There's and Escher-like quality to the "exceptionalists" construction of reality.
Example: A. Waterboarding is torture. B. President declares "We do not torture" C. We waterboard. D. Waterboarding is not torture becauase president said we do not torture.
Or. A. A person weighing 350lbs is obese. B. Rush declares "I'm not obese." C. Rush weighs 350lbs. D. 350lbs is not obese because Rush said he is not obese.
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.

I think what you're saying is disregard the rules when it inhibits "us," but claim to them as gospel when they can be used against "them."
