The other version of the Harman/AIPAC story
Here's the other (friendlier) version of the Harman/AIPAC story, not surprisingly in the NYTimes.
The truth is probably between the two versions, and it's certainly not pretty in any case, but it does reopen the who, where, and why questions on the first version.
Who wanted to tell the very most damaging version about Harman? To what degree was CQ played in this? (They got the big story, but, as a smaller publication, appear to have been somewhat used.) And, why now?
(I kinda like the theory that this is someone trying to take attention away from the torture releases.)

There's a lot of bitter, newly unemployed, high level, political hacks floating around out there... From Cheney to Hayden and all the way down. These aren't public servants, but political zealots. And if there's a further distinction, they're not Bush's people but Cheney's.
These are the people who are trying to tear down Obama -- personally and politically. These are the people who would rather see a destroyed America than a successful Democrat. These are the Godfathers of political vendettas. Look at the crap coming out of Cheney and Haden! Unprecedented in they're mercenary-like pettiness, self-aggrandizement and FUD.
Sadly, these are also the people the media -- from NPR to FOX -- will use as credible sources for opposing ideas. But these aren't experts in anything but ass covering and bind ideology. These are not "conservative intellectuals," but neo-con brutes.
Sorry. I'm really upset about this cloak and dagger political sabotage that passes for "journalism"
