President Obama’s choice for health secretary, Tom Daschle, was aware as early as last June that he might have to pay back taxes for the use of a car and driver provided by a private equity firm, but did not inform the Obama transition team until weeks after Mr. Obama named him to the health secretary’s post, senior administration officials said Saturday.

Standing back and looking at all the recent tax snaffus I posit two thoughts: 1) the US tax system is too complicated to comply with...I know, I know, they were cutting it close, but..., 2) the IRS is not pursuing taxes due...why didn't these folks get dinged already?

I also find it interesting that for all the vetting the transition did, they appear weak in this area.
