The challenge of Robert Gates staying
While Robert Gates appears widely accepted for a continuation as Defense Secretary into the Obama administration, one of the floating questions is what to do with the Bush appointees and aides below him.
The WaPo says they're leaving. I wonder how that will play out.

I don't know much about Gates, but I've gotten the impression over his term that he's most definitely not an ideologue. He probably has no particular love for Bush/Cheney and their minions and moles. I'll bet he'd be just fine with a new broom sweeping the decks clean with regard to political appointees.
Gates appears to be a pragmatic conservative. I'll bet he's happy to have an intelligent, pragmatic commander in chief.

Well, he's Scowcroft/realist at his core which means he's probably in for anything centrist/Clinton Dem.
Probably not sorry to see the ideologues go, but I don't know enough about the replacements to make a call. I'm sure he had at least veto power.
(Plus, you gotta figure at least one of the new subordinates is probably his longer term replacement.)
I don't see a major dislocation. It's just a difference.
