David Brooks on the Republican civil war
Definitely worth a read (although you should probably replace "traditionalists" with "right wing crazies.") Brooks' contention is that, in the near term at least, the "traditionalists" will win.

I think it's amazing that a Dem leading forum is putting so much effort into analyzing what went wrong with the other guys. I didn't realize it but doesn't it speak volumes about the way Dems view the world that they want to understand what's going on and how things worked even if it's a social/political dynamic that is as narrow and intolerant as the Dem's is open?

I get your point, and, yeah, the Republican power struggle is fairly unimportant in the near term, but what I love about all this is the analysis, the tea leaf reading.
That's why I'm watching this, not because I really have a dog in the fight, but because I find it so interesting to see how these forces play against each other.
When there's clearly a better path out, it appears that they're not going to end up going down that path, because of the various forces put into play before now.
I just find it fascinating, not so much for the political implications as for the dynamics of it.
