Thought
Sarah Palin isn't just battling for John McCain's future on Thursday night. She's also battling for her own political future in the many, many years after this election.

Palin will have a lucrative career in the Right Wing, think tank, speechifying circuit. She's their darling no matter what the outcome in November. In fact her stock may rise is she's a "victim" of the election.
Had she not been picked for VP, she may have had a shot at the US Senate. But even that would have been questionable because her veil of reformer/moralist was already beginning to unravel with the Troopergate investigation. So I think it's not at all certain that Palin had a brilliant future ahead of her. At some point her intellectual emptiness would have been exposed.

True, but by pulling her up too early, they may have shot her chance at big time future office.
Dan Quayle had a career after his VP, but it's hardly the public one imagined when they picked him.
