To give you an idea of how bad an idea the White House meeting was,
White House spokesman Dana Perino tromps out the "history will be the judge" defense regarding the wisdom of yesterday's White House meeting.

Here's an observation...
For better or worse there was an agreement in principal between both parties and both houses of congress on a bailout. The apple cart was overturned by a cadre of conservative House Republicans, arguably the most economically and fiscally illiterate group in Washington.
So now the process, for better or worse, of "saving" the economy is in chaos... or near chaos. All at the hands of the weakest economic minds in America.
These House Republicans are to economics what Creationists and biblical literalists are to science... and yet they seem to hold the levers of power. Were they safely politically caged by their leadership? And did John McCain let them loose?

My phrasing,
The "economic conservatives" the same ones that created this deregulatory mess, now claim that they, and only they, have the only right answer.

I wish I had you efficiency with words. Yes. That's it... mostly. There is the added dimension that not only are they demonstrably wrong in their economic theories, they are equally blind to their wrongness and doubly committed to their wrongheadedness. But you've captured the nub of it.

That's your religious reference, although it's philosophy not religion.
Blind certainty is seldom good.
