Political bits
(ABC) The Dems in Congress are leveraging the White House. "If McCain doesn't vote for the bailout, it wont pass." (Pretty smart. It forces the White House to take away McCain's "maverick" option.)
(TPM) Obama's beginning to ramp up ad spending in Florida, Penn, Colo, and Nevada. (As we watch the spending shift, it gives some idea of how close the campaigns see these states.)
(AP) "Less than a week after balking at the Alaska Legislature's investigation into her alleged abuse of power, Gov. Sarah Palin on Monday indicated she will cooperate with a separate probe run by people she can fire."
(Politico) Has anyone noticed that the much touted Freedom's Watch has relegated itself to House races, not the Presidential campaign?
Sarah Palin was briefed by the Director of National Intelligence, Admiral Michael McConnell today. (Fill in your comedy sketch here. "But I can't see North Korea from Alaska...")
And, Obama has been pounding McCain with ads. Just today, there's "Destination" (Ouch,) a "foreign vehicles" ad specifically for Michigan, and this very effective ad featuring Lilly Ledbetter (distribution unknown.)

The Florida gambit is clever, IMHO.
McCain cannot win under any circumstances if he loses Florida, even if he wins Ohio. He has too much ground to cover in far-flung states, and is relying on 527s to carry his message (dangerous). Florida is life-or-death for McCain, but icing on the cake for Obama. It's also an expensive media market, so letting Florida soak up huge amounts of 527 money and scarce McCain funds (that aren't being spent flipping Obama states) is a good idea. Obama seems to be able to afford it.
Freedom Watch is interesting. I had thought that, with the paltry and embarrassing fund-raising efforts of the NRCC, the competitive House races were a "gimme". Now FW will tie (by association) these Republicans more closely to the right-wing causes. Not what these guys need.

I agree completely on Florida.
I really want to see another week of polling with the "economic crisis." There's some anecdotal evidence that Obama is suddenly making up ground among seniors, and that puts Florida way in play. Have to wait and see if the early tidbits are indicative or polling flukes.
(And add in the semi coordinated RNC and state party polling. McCain is doing those dubious state party fundraisings through the RNC, but it's not really clear yet how much of that is going to which states.
As for Freedom's watch, it was pretty much two big funders, and I don't know the whole story, but it kind of imploded.
