Hmm. Given that money is the idol to which the GOP serve with martyr-like devotion, it doesn't bode well that W punted on the fundraisers. Of course I think he's meeting with the advisors not to find solutions but to come up with political spin for the election.
Well, it's back to the "It's the economy stupid." At the end of the day, a person's paycheck and 401 (k) is something they feel very personally and emotionally. Wiretapping? Aw, that's some other guy they're bugging. War in Iraq? But Saddam blew up the World Trade Center and if we don't fight them there we'll be fighting them in the malls of America! Aaaaa! I'm scared!
So, from a political perspective -- from the perspective of keeping a GOP tool in the WH -- this is really scary for GWB. 'Cause it's hard to convince someone who can't afford to fill his oil tank to heat his home that he's doing A-OK.
The meeting with advisors is ALL about spinning this crisis and somehow laying it at Barack Obama's feet.
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.

The reason this freaks me out a little is because he was hitting fundraisers when the whole DoJ wiretapping thing was hitting the wall.
He was fundraising in 2004/2006 when Iraq was coming apart.
Admittedly, these cancellations are likely about appearances, but he has never let those appearances stop him before.
(He likes fundraising more than just about any aspect of being president. Sitting in a room of the wealthy and powerful who tell him how great he is?)

Could be he doesn't want to face awkward questions too....or maybe the donors aren't feeling quite so generous lately?

EPM, fair point.
And it is definitely about appearances.
....
Anon, Maybe, but I don't think so. The people who are going to a fundraiser because they like Bush are the hardest of the hardcore.
