Picture of the Day - 3

Last night the heads were all over themselves saying that Hillary Clinton didn't make the case for Obama's qualifications.

Patience, media bitches.

Monday was about introduction. Michelle Obama got raves.

Tuesday was about party unity. (There's a reason they attacked John McCain.) Hillary Clinton got raves.

Wednesday is about experience and judgment.

For Wednesday, look at the speaker's list for tonight, Reed, Clinton, Daschle, Kerry, Richardson, Edwards, Duckworth, Joe Biden.

Look. Like everything else in the Obama campaign, this is a very deliberate thing. Patience. They don't dance to the news media.

  • David Brooks and Michael Beschloss had problems with Hillary's speech, in that she didn't repudiate her earlier criticisms of Obama and (worse yet) praise of McCain vis a vis the commander in chief crap. They suggested this allows McCain to continue to run ads throwing Hillary's primary words at Obama.

Others, Mark Shields and Richard Norton Smith in particular, said that wasn't necessary. That her speech was terrific and left no doubt that she supports Obama an believes McCain stands opposed to everything she stands for.

Personally, I wanted to hear "As I've come to work closely with Barack Obama over the past several weeks -- yada, yada, yada -- I've come to realize that in the heat of a tough primary fight I might have said things that gave the impression.... yada, yada. Let me make it very clear; I believe that Barack Obama is not only ready, willing a able to answer that 3am call, but also that we, as Americans, NEED him to be there to answer that call...

  • Is the Edwards on your list for tonight John Edwards? I thought he wasn't going to speak.

  • EPM, I tend to agree, but Bill Clinton making statements of competence would be more powerful. After all, he's actually held the job.

    ...

Anon, Chet Edwards, Texas Congressman. 2nd picture bottom row.

  • Absolutely, regarding Bill.

Bill hasn't exactly been generous in his support of Obama. Tonight should be interesting. Will he frame himself as the willing and proud Democratic Elder handing the reigns to Obama? The crowd would love it... and he loves to be loved.

I'm makin' popcorn for this show!

  • He'll do what needs to be done because it's in his interests to do so.

His job will be to "qualify" Obama for the White House, and he will do that pretty well.

My interest will be the Biden speech. See the post above this one.

  • Bill Clinton could NOT have done a better job! What a speech. What a performance. A thing of party unity beauty.

Biden was very good, too, but Kerry gave a slightly better take-down of McCain.
