McCain can't fill his Ohio VP announcement crowd?
About a week ago, I commented that it was surprising that the McCain campaign had to "build a crowd" of 10,000 for his likely VP announcement event in Ohio on Saturday. (You would think that would be an easy fill.)
Well, check this out from yesterday,
One of the bigger events they're going to have, and they're having trouble filling out a crowd of 10,000?
Later: According to CNN, it's 15,000. I got the 10,000 number from the first round of reporting a week ago.

Tickets are still available for Sen. John McCain's Friday, Aug. 29, rally at Wright State University's Nutter Center in Fairborn.

Will the television coverage of the Repub convention show us empty seats and thin crowds? While the Dems are turning people away due to capacity limits, will the Repubs have to use theatrical stagecraft to make their convention look full?
Just wondering.

I would bet the convention would be full. (Despite the many Senators skipping.)
Those will be delegates at the convention, people who fought in their states for the right to go.

True. I still hope for the shots of vacant seats and napping seniors.... but that's probably based more in my nasty attitude than reality.

Heh...."Nutter Center"

EPM, for the convention, yeah, I think you are. It will be packed with enthusiastic Republicans regardless of their support for McCain.
I mean, the Trek people still hold their conventions and they've never been popular.
....
Zen. Funny.

Word here in the Twin Cities is that hotel bookings are way less than expected for the RNC. A look at a random sample of bookings produced a few security people, small-time journalists, and contractors, but no delegates.
Obviously delegates will show up, but this is turning out to be big fizzle in a number of ways for us here. Money-wise, it's going to be a net loss, and that's not even including the costs of arresting the protesters. Downtown St. Paul is barricaded up like a war zone, traffic is re-routed and snarled, downtown businesses are suffering. In short, people are pissed and sick of the whole thing already. If they postpone it, all protest permits will be voided and things will get very ugly.
