Stung?

Has anyone else noticed that McCain has backed way off the attacks after his pretty scurrilous attacks on Obama over the weekend were widely panned as distasteful, and not supported by any other Republican figures?

  • I don't know. It might just be that the McCain campaign really has no over-arching strategy. That particular ad just seemed like a knee-jerk, public expression of pissing and moaning by McCain. Was it supposed to be the opening salvo of a campaign strategy, or was it just McCain shooting his mouth off in frustration? I'm guessing the latter.

McCain's a visceral reactor, with thin skin and a short fuse.

  • Thinking about it a little more, I think they may have just wanted to stamp on the end of Obama's trip.

But, the reaction against them was so strong.

And, yeah, McCain's fuse is beginning to show.

  • Other than blowing off some McFurious steam, I fail to grasp what the McCain campaign was hoping to accomplish with that ad. It was so completely dripping with contempt; so out in left field in it's tone and content.... Especially this far out from the election.

So, yeah. Maybe it was just McFurious giving a giant "F-U" to the whole Obama trip... to the media, to Obama, and to everyone in American and around the world who supports Obama

  • The "way too early" bit is what amazed me most. It's not unbelievable that the dropped an ad like that, but this far out, with all the media space, it gets torn apart. (and smacks of desperation.)
