Political bits
(AP) Barack Obama cuts through the GOP attacks on his "second language" line and points out that they're attacking him for encouraging children to learn.
(WSJblog) Hagel will join Obama on his Iraq trip. (Hagel is a good example of how Joe Lieberman should be acting.)
(WSJblog) Obama catches McCain in TV spending.
(Politico) The Obama camp insists that the WSJ's leak of only $30 million in June "is way off the mark."
(SI) "According to sources, Barack Obama's campaign is in talks to become the primary sponsor of BAM Racing's No. 49 Sprint Cup car for the Pocono race on August 3."
(Politico) You can submit your suggestions for their platform directly to the GOP. (I'd recommend using a fake email.)
And, (CNN) it appears that McCain has found the age of his audience. His appearances are now preceded by "easy listening" music, "smooth jazz," muzak, and even a barbershop quartet. (Nothing gets 'em going like barbershop!)
Later: (Politico) At a campaign stop today, McCain made some further comments on Phil Gramm. (McCain really is a bit of a prick.)

On many levels Hagel has conducted himself as a class act while Lieberman has been kind of slimy with back-handed character insinuations, making up "facts" and generally acting like an attention whore. And you're right... Hagel, unlink Lieberman, has shown you can be quietly, personally supportive of an opposition candidate without taking a public dump on your own party.
McCain is a prick. Right now the corporate media treats his S.O.B. antics as just "keepin' it real" Like a lackey posse of teen-agers who giggle when their punk leader says something outrageous. Personally, I think McCain's prick-ness is going to run thin with the general population once they start paying attention to the race (post-Labor Day). When we get to see Obama and McCain on the same stage I think even the dullest of American voter will be surprised to find with what they find. By comparison, McCain just won't come across as "presidential."

This week seems to have taken a little of the shine off McCian's rose. The media seem to be disliking his hurling of Phil Gramm overboard (or maybe it was just the manner.)
Also, this was the week Steve Schmidt started at McCain's campaign. Wasn't he supposed to instill order?
