  • Skimming the oline foreign press and seeing the reception Obama received in Berlin and elsewhere, I'm wondering if a President Obama is America's last hope to mend ties with Europe and truly affect a unified Western alliance.

    The Europeans don't like Bush at all and were stunned when we returned him to office in 2004. If we install what is effectively a third Bush administration by electing McCain, will Europe effectively put "The American Century" firmly behind it and move forward on its own? At what point do the Europeans feel US influence in their affairs and economies is more of a net loss in the broader scheme of things?
