Picture of the Day - 3

This is the cover of the New Yorker on sale soon. For real. Bin Laden over the fireplace, the American flag burning there. Full racial stereotypes......

I don't care what point they're claiming to try to make, this is just offensive.

ABC's Jake Tapper has the story. (Politico, too.) A larger version of the picture is to be had here.

  • Ah. Republican humor.

I'm waiting for the next issue which will have McCain depicted as a doddering fool, trapped in the past, confused by the present, and lead on a leash like a chimp controlled by the Religous Right, Big Oil, and K Street. Also completely dependent on the unearned fortunes of his rich-bitch wife. Ha, Ha. That would be funny too.

I'm still laughing, 'cause promoting racial stereotypes of them coloreds is so fuckin' funny!!!

Is this any different than publishing a "satire" of Michelle and Barack as pickaninnies, eating fried chicken and watermelon... Michelle, shown in Aunt Jemima garb, and Barack, dressed like an African "savage" complete with a bone through his nose, ogling the sweet and pure white girl. Yeah, that would be funny too.

  • Anon, I don't know exactly what it is. It's just wrong.

EPM, That's the New Yorker. I don't think you can call it Republican. They've been pretty solidly Obama for awhile.

And, my first draft had a watermelon line in it, but I scratched it.

  • No, no.... I didn't mean that the New Yorker ed. board was "Republican," just that this kind of "humor" is typically in line with that Republican vein of character assassination and/or violence, etc. A poorly constructed (and unnecessary) throw away line on my part.

  • Yeah, it has that characteristic blunt edge that's not particularly funny.

  • More like Jackass type humour I think. Maybe aimed at the youtube demographic?

  • No, the New Yorker people are saying they wanted a sarcasm of the right's charges.

It's just a big ass mistajke.

  • I got that but it's very clumsy...Joe Sixpack will just say , 'see I told you they wuz mooslims...'

  • I agree, it's just horrible.
