Iran softening?
There are a lot of little tea leaves out there that the Iranians are 'seriously considering' a shift on their nuclear program.
Of course, this could all be a stall to try and ride out the end of the Bush administration.
(Also floating around, a discussion in the US of opening a diplomatic office in Tehran, an embassy without an ambassador.)

The most viable compromises being negotiated with Iran all involve somebody (usually Russia) providing Iran with enriched uranium so that they don't have to create the facilities to make it themselves. I fail to see how this would be acceptable to the Administration, though it appears to be acceptable to everyone else, excluding Israel.
If it doesn't satisfy the U.S. or Israel, then we are just back to where we are now, even if an agreement is worked out. The only difference is that the UN is out of the equation, which is how Iraq went down anyway. So I don't see any benefit to Iran in stall tactics. As far as I can see, Israel is better off attacking sooner than later, if they attack at all, and Cheney is better off waiting until October in a misguided attempt to rally the public around a new war...or claim an "emergency" that impacts the ability to have elections.
BTW, about four of my comments recently have not shown up here. Is this a blogger.com thing or should I be taking a hint?

I think it's acceptable because it takes the fuel cycle away from the Iranians. The Russians supply 70% enriched or whatever it is, and handle the reprocessing afterwards meaning that within grams, it's all accounted for.
You need 95+% enriched for a bomb, and if the Iranians don't have the facility to reprocess and spool the waste up......
And I would guess the stall equation is to get Cheney and the neocons out of the policy making. Yes, Israel and Obama might attack after Jan 09, but neither of them is agitating for it the way Cheney and his cadre are.
(As for comments not posting, No, it's not me. every once in awhile, blogger will hang when I'm trying to post a comment, and it won't show. I'll get an error of some type rather than "comment saved to be published" or whatever.
Generally what I do is right click "open new window" on the comments section so that if that happens I can go back, back and hit the publish your comment button again.
But, bottom line, no, it's not me.)
