The Congressional Dems held a meeting with a whole bunch of business leaders/trade association folks (the ones who employ the lobbyists) and laid down the law: Stop helping the GOP or you will be shut out.

The writing is on the wall, so the Democrats can afford to be subtle. It's an interesting contrast to the heavy-handed style of the GOP, and one that appears not to be lost on these leaders.
While the Democrats will probably not get a veto-proof majority in the Senate, this doesn't really matter if they control the White House, too. All of those highly-paid "consultants" that these groups were forced to retain under GOP dominance would become white elephants overnight. That must seem attractive to these industry groups.
So many of these sycophants that got their positions either in federal government or in "industry" by K-street mandate, will find themselves tossed out to fend for themselves in the dismal economy that their hero created.
