Tantalizing tidbit

The NYTimes has a big piece on a successful "good cop" interrogator who came in after detainees had been "harshly interrogated," (KSM waterboarded 100 times in two weeks in Poland,) but what really caught my curiosity was this little tidbit in one of the accompanying graphics.

In late 2005, "After the location of the Poland (secret prison) site by press and human rights groups, both detainees are moved to an unknown location in the middle east."


Egypt? Jordan? Which middle eastern government would risk having it known that they hosted US detention/torture facilities?

  • I wondered about that, too. At the time, they had a government that might have supported it, but on the other hand, the blowback would likely cause such huge damage to among the nominally neutral Sunni states.

  • Which middle eastern government would risk having it known that they hosted US detention/torture facilities?

    This is why there will never be an international (e.g. UN) investigation of Guantanamo or the black ops prisons. The countries that participated are deeply embarrassed and undoubtedly were assured by the Administration that "no one would ever know". One of the reasons that Poland's pro-Bush government lost power was the scandal over these secret prisons.

    BTW, I'd guess Egypt or Turkey.
    Israel already admits to torture and would probably brag that they "helped us out".
