Bill Clinton's finances are a VP "dealbreaker"
As I've written several times, the vetting process has always been the way out of the Clinton VP mess.
To me, this is actually a very good outcome as it makes rejecting the VP nomination a choice by the Clinton's, not a rejection by Obama.
This takes the heat off the Obama campaign and lets Hillary Clinton walk away with her head high for choosing not to take the job.
For both camps it can play as a win-win.
But close advisers to Sen. Obama signaled an Obama-Clinton ticket was highly unlikely. People in both camps cited what several called "a deal-breaker" -- Bill Clinton may balk at releasing records of his business dealings and big donors to his presidential library.

It also puts it on Bill's shoulders, not Hillary's... who once again is a casualty of her husband's affairs, if you will.

It disturbs the hell out of me that he's not willing to have his business relationships vetted. What doesn't he want us to know about? Who is he beholden to?
Whatever the answers, he certainly wouldn't have volunteered the info had Hillary become president.

EPM, good point. I don't know if that's good for her legacy or bad. It clears her of the loss, but also tinges future runs.

abi, I think it's the foundation not the personal finances. Even when the Clinton's were talking about disclosure, the foundation was to be exempted.
I don't know what would be so odd that donors wouldn't want their donations known, but it appears that privacy of donors is where the block is.
My question is this. They had a pretty good idea that Hillary Clinton was going to run at some point, at least they knew it was a possibility, so how in the world are they not squeaky clean?
Or is it just a promise to protect privacy.
