  • Question: What percent of Hillary's support is because folks actually think Hillary would be a better president, and what percent is because Hillary has convinced folks that America won't vote for a black man or an "elitist" in November?

I have no doubt that Hillary can out Republican the Republican nominee when it comes to dirty, scorched earth politicking come November. My question is, where does that leave us as a nation? Does anyone really think she'll be affective in moving legislation through a further polarized congress?

I think we're about 5-10 years away from becoming the dithering old grandpa of the Free World. Other countries will continue to give us lip service respect and shower our visiting leaders with pomp and pageantry, but at the end of the day we'll be shuffled off to the TV room with a word-search puzzle when the grownups have grownup things to do.

  • I don't know about the percentages of her support, but I would say there's a good number who support her for her. I think alot of the unelectability stuff, at least among Dems, is more of a supporting argument than a decisive one.

I do think the bit in the CBS poll in the next post says a whole lot

"More than 60 percent of voters in the poll said that Mrs. Clinton said what people wanted to hear, rather than what she believed."

Last, the Us is on the long term track to be that grandpa no matter what, that's the whole point of this blog. We're like the English empire as it began to lose it's influence. Because of our debt and overstretch, it's really inevitable.

That's exactly why I'm so keen on politics, because the difference between a well managed slide and a poorly managed collapse is huge. That's why we need to push legalistic internationalism, to set the terms we'll be living under as we lose influence.

That's why the "New American Century" and Bush's unilateralism, tearing up treaties are such a disaster to me.
