McCain has more explaining to do.
In the WaPo today, James Rubin points out that McCain was willing to engage in talks with Hamas just two years ago. (Not iron clad, but it does undermine the attack.) (YouTube clip.)
After yet another Washington insider is bounced from his campaign, John McCain has to issue a new "conflict of interest" policy and revet all of his top staff. (This one for questionably legal ties to a 527. Previous campaign "retirements" have come for past lobbying work for Myanmar, Sudan, and other bad actors.)
Yesterday it was announced that Cindy McCain sold $2 million in mutual funds which had ties to the Sudanese government.
And, I don't know enough from this AP article to make a solid judgment, but more ethical questions about another McCain land deal where the government bought land from his large donors? (I think this is the third.)
(It sure would be useful if the focus were on McCain rather than the Dem primary.)

It's still very early in the campaign cycle. November is a long way away, but it appears that McCain is pretty much incompetent at managing a campaign.
It's like he's just some product, used by political mercenaries and profiteers for their own gain... a stooge really. I don't get the feeling McCain really knows what he's doing.... Kind of like a singer in a manufactured boy band. The staff and "advisors" trot him out. Let him do his grumpy old man routine. And then it's back in the box.
All this news makes him look kind of small.... and I don't think Cindy -- the trophy bride sugar-mommy -- is going to help him much with the base. Talk about elite and disconnected. And of course she wears the financial pants in the family... don't know how that goes over with the poor, uneducated and frustrated white men....
Kinda rambling on... sorry.

In my mind, only a fool would have decided to run for GOP nominee in 2008 with the intention of winning with the landscape the way it is.
McCain had to go this year because he's already too old, but otherwise, I don't think anyone serious would've picked this year to run.
If you look at McCain's history, everytime he has started to go big he's screwed up. He's already done so once this cycle. Frankly, I think it's because he makes decisions emotionally.
As for Cindy, no, she's definitely not going to be America's Sweetheart, althoug she has shown a little ability to pop up, make a snide attack, and then fade back smilingly behind her husband.
