I'm sure it's just a coincidence that Dobson and other religious right figures are criticizing McCain for not reaching out to evangelicals at the exact moment McCain starts talking about VP candidates.
I'm sure that's coincidental. "Men of god" wouldn't play dirty, would they?

I'm confused. Exactly how is Dobson "playing dirty" with these comments? It sounds much like what many others on the right say about McCain.
Not defending Dobson - I'm sure he doesn't mind getting mud on his shoes. I just don't understand your point here.

Well, they're trying to extort a VP nominee acceptable to them by threatening to extend the "McCain isn't acceptable to Republicans" storyline in the midst of this McCain "rally the Republicans" period.
They hold a lot of power over him if they decide to keep commenting in the media that he's unacceptable. It kills his storyline.

Sorry if I was a little opaque. I was trying to make it snappy.

Thanks, I see now. I am still not sure it has anything to do with the VP choice. I think Dobson et al want McCain to lose. They would rather see a Democrat in the White House than a Republican (like McCain) who is not under their influence.
Given this, it doesn't surprise me when Dobson says things that seem to hurt McCain. That is his goal. I doubt he cares who the running mate is.

The line between politics and religion is thin, if not nonexistent.
I think most people still don't get that the very invention of Christianity was a political move.

Patrick, that's a very valid argument. It's especially strong to position themselves as kingmakers again the next time around.
However, since McCain is maybe only 1 term, that VP choice is big and if McCain picked Dobson's choice (whoever that might be) I have a feeling Dobson and the others come around very quickly.
....
Anon, I don't have the space to even launch into that discussion. That's a big one.
