Are you very afraid?
Whether it's hype or not, I don't know anymore. The cries of wolf have become a white noise, but there's two bits out over the last two days regarding threat.
But what does an Al Qaeda message mean anymore either?
A bit more troubling to me,
And, no, it has not escaped my notice that the Iraq reports are due to hit right around the September 11 remembrance.
A new al Qaeda propaganda ad, headlined "Wait for the Big Surprise" and featuring a digitally altered photograph of President George Bush and Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf standing in front of a burning White House, was posted on the Internet today.
But what does an Al Qaeda message mean anymore either?
A bit more troubling to me,
Capitol Police officials have stepped up the department’s security presence on Capitol Hill in response to intelligence indicating the increased possibility of an al-Qaida terrorist attack on Congress sometime between now and Sept. 11.
The August-to-Sept. 11 time frame was confirmed by a Capitol Police source who said Congressional security officials were recently made aware of the potential threat by federal anti-terrorism authorities.
And, no, it has not escaped my notice that the Iraq reports are due to hit right around the September 11 remembrance.

Al Qaeda -- the real Al Qaeda -- really doesn't want us to leave Iraq, do they. Bush's War legitimizes all their recruiting material. If we leave -- if we say Iraq is a problem for Iraqi's to solve -- then the stature of al Qaeda is diminished, not increased.
Remember the old line "there's no such thing as bad publicity"? Now think about how many times Bush promotes al Qaeda as the most dangerous force on the planet. Al Qaeda couldn' pay for this kind of publicity, this American stamp of frightening legitimacy.
I don't believe anything anymore. It's all political now. It's all propaganda now. There's no difference in reality between the domestic fearmongering of Bush, or the death and doom threats of our fanatic enemies. Wake me when it's over.

EPM, yes and no. If we leave Iraq, they will "win" primarily because the Bush administration has made them enemy number one. If we don't leave, we spend money, blood and effort that serves to help their recruiting and fundraising.
I would argue though that, despite the politics, there is a real terror threat, although through its politicization, it's become almost impossible to judge.

These were my feelings exactly.

What really matters is the safety and well being of our troops. Despite all the political garbage, these men and women still die for us. I am posting a poem called "Solders" on my blog. We need to pray for them.
