At the Bush Pelosi Reid meeting, Reid told Bush that he knew the administration would come after him, but that he was ready for the fight, that the Dems would not back down.

There is a bit of conventional wisdom that says Americans respect and support politicians who stand firm in their convictions and level with the people. If Reid and the Dems remain firm, but calm, if they don't take any shit from BushCo and the far right, and if they engage the public with Trumanesque straight talk, free of bullshit, then I think the Dems will continue to win American hearts and minds.
I know I'm biased, but the way the Dems have universally conducted themselves and their public duties is a blast of fresh air compared to the years of Republican graft and insider trading. I hope this sobers up "independent" Americans to take the bit out of their mouths and to start thinking again.
