Actually, Rudy's campaign advisers think this will work quite well for him in the south-eastern, Appalachian, and southern primaries. Kind of a "He's one of us" theme.
But seriously, when you grow up in a vast and sparsely populated wilderness like Garden City, Long Island, the pickin's get pretty slim when you trying to find a good woman to settle down with. Thank goodness he didn't grow up in the Adirondack's... just think of his poor sister!

I'm trying pretty hard to not care about the '08 election two years before it happens, but this one....

From a little backchecking, it appears he didn't know she was his cousin until later, but it's still a pretty ridiculous skeleton to have in the closet for a presidential candidate.
