Bush's magical defense

I can't help but think how Bush's latest "To oppose everything while proposing nothing is irresponsible," is almost impenetrable.

As the alternate position recognizes that "victory" is no longer possible, and Bush refuses to concede that point, there is no alternative that would be deemed an acceptable argument.

Therefore, his delusion guarantees him protection.

  • A patient comes into the O.R. with a devastating, yet not fully understood, disease. The head physician orders a course of leeches followed by therapeutic consumption of the patients own urine and a round of caning to beat the evil humors out of the patient.

The staff and advisers naturally protest. To which the head physician responds, "To oppose all that I offer, but not offer your own course of action is irresponsible!"

Of course the head physician has conveniently forgotten the several alternate courses of action suggested by the staff, not the least of which was to recommend that the first option should be to do no harm.

  • There is always the ISG report to fall back on. That could be considered a viable option or alternative at least.

  • No.

I forgot your plan also can't involve talking to Iran. That's also off the table.

But any other plan that involves at least as many troops as we have now, doesn't involve negotiatingwith Iran, or inviting in the UN.
