70 Senators opposed to the surge?

I bet a big percentage of the Politburo harboured private misgivings about Stalin. Big fat hairy deal. If you don't stand up, you don't get to be counted.

The White House is trying to but they really don't know how to handle this.
Sure they do - dissolve the Congress. Bush must have slipped that into one of his hundreds of signing statements by now.
