New polling
New polls out, and they are all bad for the Republicans.

I think these numbers would have been close to the same even without the Foley mess. I believe the public finally turned on this administration months ago. A little late for my liking.

I agree with the overall estimate, but I'm not so sure the swing would've been as vicious.
It's impossible to seperate out Foley from the rest of the bad news over the past two weeks.
But, I do remember coming off the 9-11 exploitation a slight shift in the conventional wisdom saying that the Repub losses might not be so bad.
I agree that I don't think that would've sustained, Iraq alone was bound to put on a drag, but the rapid fire NIE/Woodward/Foley spawned this vicious snapback.

I've arguedhere that the Republican crisis is foremost an internal one. I think we'll see a lot of Republicans punishing the party by staying home or voting for the Democrats.

I'm not sure yet how it will manifest.
I live down here in "Red" Texas, and they're not enthused, but we'll have to see. The religious folks won't vote dem, the "business" side of the party might, but they're not as aghast at Foley.
I don't know.
